Stanley's practice includes advising matrimonial clients on valuations of real estate, pensions, professional practice, and other property interests. He also coordinates sophisticated tax planning, real estate, and trusts and estates services for matrimonial clients requiring these services. Stanley has been engaged in a wide range of government service roles. He was a member of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in 1995. He was the general counsel and congressional liaison of the U.S. Information Agency from 1961 to 1965. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, and while a rifle platoon leader with the 36th Infantry Division, he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Stanley is a certified fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, for whom he served as Vice President, counsel, and liaison to the judiciary. He has been a member of the board of managers for many years. Stanley is also a certified fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. As a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, he served on its International Human Rights Committee from 1998-2001; on its Judiciary Committee from 1987-1990; and chaired its Committee on Matrimonial Law from 1984-1987. Stanley was a founding member of the board of directors of the Children's Law Center. He has been a member of the board of directors of the City Center Theatre since 1977. Stanley serves on the Executive Committee of the Trollope Society. Stanley was chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre from 1974 to 1989 and chairman emeritus since that date. From 1984 to 2006, he was a member of the board of directors of the Howard Samuels State Management and Policy Center (CUNY) and from 1984 to 1990 he was a member of the board of trustees for Dance/USA.
