Mr. Ross, who was elected to Broadcom's Board of Directors in 1995, served for many years as the President of Rockwell International's Telecommunications Group, which included the Newport Beach-based semiconductor operation. Under Mr. Ross's leadership, Rockwell's semiconductor revenue grew from $140 million to more than $1 billion and Rockwell became the worldwide leader in voiceband modems. He retired in 1995. Later Rockwell spun off its semiconductor operations to the public to launch Conexant Systems. Before joining Rockwell, Mr. Ross served as Vice President and General Manager of National Semiconductor's ASIC business, and prior to that was Vice President and General Manager of Fairchild Semiconductor's ASIC division. During 1978-1982, he was Vice President and General Manager of the Fairchild Semiconductor Test Systems division, a manufacturer of computer-aided semiconductor test systems. During 1994, he served as Chairman of the Board of the Semiconductor Industry Association, the premier trade association representing the U.S. microchip industry. Mr. Ross also served on the Board of Sematech as well as the Telecommunications Industry Association.
