A legend in the Calgary oilpatch, Riddell has been working the territory for five decades. The output from his earliest natural gas wells fetched just 15 cents per thousand cubic feet, but he stuck with it, eventually cobbling together a prime position in the burgeoning oil sands region that he sold to Norway's Statoil. He is part owner of the Calgary Flames hockey team.
