The former Fannette Breaux Ballard Horner was born in Louisville, Ky. She was a 1940 graduate of Vassar College, where she majored in French. In 1943, she married William Ballard Hoyt Sawyer of Buffalo while he was in the Navy and stationed in Boston, Mass. He died in 1986. Mrs. Sawyer, who lived in Buffalo for 63 years, was an active sportswoman. As a committed conservationist, she was a supporter of the Western New York Land Conservancy, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, Conservation International and Ecotrust, a conservation organization based in Portland, Ore. She was a member of the Saturn Club, the Buffalo Tennis and Squash Club, the Buffalo Country Club and the Nantucket Yacht Club. She is survived by a son, Charles H.; two daughters, Katherine S. White and Sally B.; and a brother, Robert.
