Steven Gluckstern currently serves as Chairman, President and CEO of Ivivi Technologies, Inc, a medical technology firm pioneering the development of targeted pulsed electromagnetic filed therapies (“electroceuticals.”) Ivivi’s first family of non-invasive, non-pharmacological electroceuticals focuses on living tissue’s anti-inflammatory cascade/response, and its accompanying nitric oxide/angiogenic effects which include pain reduction and soft tissue regeneration. The Company believes that Ivivi’s first suite of FDA-approved electrotherapeutic products has potential immediate application with respect to over 25 diverse and significant inflammatory-based medical conditions (both human and animal) including, but not limited to: cardiovascular disease, certain neurological degenerative diseases including Parkinson’s, osteo-arthritis, bone-repair, wound-healing and cancer pain management. Business Career Previously Mr. Gluckstern was a general partner of Azimuth Trust Company, LLC. This alternative asset management firm provided asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection and comprehensive risk management to both private and public sector investors with non-traditional financial investments, such as hedge and private equity funds. Mr. Gluckstern co-founded the firm in 2002 and served as its CEO until 2005. From 1993 to 1998 and from 2001 to 2002, Mr. Gluckstern held a range of entrepreneurial, executive and financial positions within the Swiss-based Zurich Financial Services Group including: Member of the Executive Committee of the Group’s Management Board; CEO of Zurich Global Assets (which oversaw the Groups’ then $500+ billion in assets under management and reinsurance portfolio); CEO (co-founder) of then NYSE-traded Zurich Re; Chairman and CEO (co-founder) of Zurich Centre Group (which included Centre Reinsurance); and Chairman of both Zurich Capital Markets and Scudder Mutual Funds/Zurich Scudder Investments. In 1998, Mr. Gluckstern co-founded Capital Z Partners. This alternative asset/private equity management firm managed over $4 billion in two global funds: Capital Z Financial Services Fund II, LP and Capital Z Investments, LP. The latter specializes in sponsorship of new and emerging hedge fund and private equity fund managers. In 1988, Mr. Gluckstern co-founded Centre Reinsurance, the first specialty financial reinsurer. Centre Re was founded with $250 million of venture capital, making it one of the largest start-ups of its kind. Before the Zurich Group acquired it in 1993, Centre Re became one of the fastest growing reinsurance enterprises in history. Prior to Centre Reinsurance, Mr. Gluckstern served as General Manager of reinsurance operations of the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group, President of Columbia Insurance Company, and Senior Vice President of National Indemnity Company. Earlier he was Chief Financial Officer of Healthco Inc., the then largest distributor of dental products in the world. He started working in the business world as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Gluckstern is currently the passive principal owner of The Ajax Group, a small, diversified holding company with interests in a range of enterprises and investment pools. The Group currently holds active investment stakes in the areas of: real estate and hospitality (Cavallo Point - The Lodge at The Golden Gate); medical technology (Ivivi Technologies, Inc.); ship building (Marine Voyager Ltd. based in Bodrum, Turkey); and carpet and jewelry manufacturing and sales (Snow Leopard Industries located in Lhasa, Tibet). Education Career Prior to his time in business Mr. Gluckstern spent seven years as a teacher and private and public school administrator. In 1974, he founded the CHOICE program at Scarsdale Jr. High School, an alternative educational program for 7th and 8th graders, which still functions today. Subsequently he served as Elementary School Principal at The Community School in Tehran, Iran. The Community School was the largest International School (English language) in Iran at the time with students from over 35 countries. After a period as an educational consultant based in Athens, Greece and Reston, Virginia, he concluded his career in education as the Superintendent of Schools in Telluride, Colorado (San Miguel County R-1 School District) in 1981 (a position to which he was appointed at age 29.) Philanthropic and Board Work Mr. Gluckstern was the founding Chairman of the Board of The Democracy Alliance, a community of politically active donors and was an initial member of the Obama National Finance Committee. The Alliance’s mission is to reestablish a progressive infrastructure and electoral majority in America by supporting high-performing, networked organizations and institutions fostering progressive ideals. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of The Jefferson Institute, which mobilizes creative thinkers (primarily MacArthur Prize Fellows) across disciplines to create inventive solutions and tangible results and m2m International, a highly successful South African based, PEPFAR supported HIV/AIDS organization committed to the eradication of mother to new-born child transmission of HIV. Over the past 25 years Mr. Gluckstern has served on a wide range of both “for profit” and “not-for-profit” Boards including (both previous and current): The Board of Trustees of Amherst College, the National Hockey League Board of Governors (initially as co-owner of the Phoenix Coyotes and then the New York Islanders), The Michael Palm Center of The University of California at Santa Barbara, the Dobbs Ferry Board of Education (elected), the Advisory Council of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, The College of Insurance (now part of St. John’s University), The Alliance for Excellent Education, and The Telluride Academy (co-founder).
