Cynthia J. Norland, assistant vice president of administration at MDU Resources Group, Inc. (NYSE:MDU), has been promoted to vice president of administration effective July 16. Norland will fill the role vacated by John K. Castleberry, who retired July 2 from his position as executive vice president of administration. Norland will oversee the shared services areas at MDU Resources, which includes information technology, procurement, payroll, communications and public relations, and government and public affairs. Norland joined MDU Resources as an attorney in 1984 and has held positions of increasing responsibility, including being named associate general counsel in 2004 and assistant vice president of administration in January 2007. A graduate of Washburn (N.D.) High School, Norland has a bachelor’s degree in English from Minot (N.D.) State University and her juris doctor degree from the University of North Dakota Law School in Grand Forks. Norland also is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. She and her husband, Bob, live in Bismarck and are the parents of two daughters, Jennifer and Cristina.
