Mr. Helfand is President and CEO of Helix Funds. Formed in 2004, Helix is a full-service real estate investment management business dedicated to providing investors with superior risk adjusted returns through focused, long-term ownership and management of commercial real estate. Mr. Helfand also serves as Co-President of Equity Group Investments (EGI), where he oversees all aspects of the firm and devotes a substantial amount of his time to the Zell Opportunities Funds. He has worked with Sam Zell for more than 24 years in a variety of capacities. Previously, Mr. Helfand served as Chief Investment Officer for Equity Office Properties (NYSE:EOP). During his tenure at Equity Office, Mr. Helfand oversaw more than $12 billion of M&A activity, including EOP's mergers with Spieker Properties and Cornerstone Properties. Prior to joining Equity Office in 1998, Mr. Helfand was a Managing Director of Equity International Properties, a privately-held international real estate investment company. Prior to joining Equity International, Mr. Helfand was President and Chief Executive Officer of Equity Lifestyle Properties, Inc. (NYSE: ELS) where he also served as a member of the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Audit Committee, until 2004. Mr. Helfand earned a master's degree from the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business and a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Helfand serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of National Louis University and is a Director of the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Mr. Helfand also serves on the Executive Committee of the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center at The Wharton School.
