A native Iowan, John Egan graduated from Grinnell in 1957 with a BA degree in physics (honors), a USAF commission and later, from Northwestern University, received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering. Interested in high technology enterprises, he has held diverse technical and management positions, in both the public and private sector, engaged in defense, aerospace, electronics and information systems. After active duty, he spent nine years in technology management with Department of Defense, and serving 25 years in various roles with the Lockheed Martin Corporation, he retired as a senior corporate officer/vice-president - corporate development. At home in New Hampshire, he is an industry consultant, serves on US government sponsored boards and panels dealing with national security affairs, and is a trustee of local, non-profit educational and charitable institutions. His wife, Anne Patterson '57 (music), remains active as a violinist, and their two married sons, John Jr.'84 , James, and their families live nearby
