Ainslie served as chairman of the Posse Foundation board for 13 years, retiring from that position in July 2008. He is now chairman emeritus. Formerly the president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C., Ainslie enjoys historic preservation and has restored many buildings over the years, including his Palm Beach home. Michael and Suzanne Ainslie have found friendships with other parents from the Palm Beach Day Academy, where Michael is on the board. He was instrumental in propelling the merger of the Palm Beach Day School and the Academy of the Palm Beaches — now called the Palm Beach Day Academy. Ainslie sits on other non-profit boards, including Vanderbilt University, the Society of the Four Arts and the Palm Beach Civic Association. He sits on two for-profit boards: St. Joe Co. and Lehman Bros. In addition, Ainslie is 20 percent owner and chairman of the Midsouth Club, a Pinehurst, N.C. golf community. He also is president of the board of The Royal Poinciana Chapel and was a member of the search committee that brought the Rev. Robert S. Norris to the chapel in 2004. Ainslie has four grown children from a previous marriage — son, Michael, and daughters Liza, Robbie and Katherine. He also has four grandchildren. He and Suzanne have a daughter, Serena.
