Ms. Anthony was a principal owner of Cox Enterprises, which reported that she died after an extended illness. Ms. Anthony and her sister, Anne Cox Chambers, and their older brother, James M. Cox Jr., all held equal interests in the company before the death of Mr. Cox in 1974, at which time the sisters received his share. Their father, James M. Cox, a former governor of Ohio, had founded the company. Ms. Anthony’s third husband, Garner Anthony, was chairman from 1974 until 1988. Her son, James C. Kennedy, is the current chairman and chief executive. In March, Forbes magazine estimated Ms. Anthony’s assets at $12.6 billion. The company’s holdings include Cox Communications, the cable television distributor; 17 daily newspapers, including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution; 15 television stations, and majority ownership of 80 radio stations. Ms. Anthony, a philanthropist who lived in the Diamond Head area of Honolulu, was chairwoman of Dayton Newspapers in Ohio and a member of the Cox Enterprises board. Besides her son, survivors include her daughter, Blair Parry-Okeden, of Australia; five grandchildren and four stepchildren.
