lifelong music-lover and trained composer, Alex co-founded Harmonix in 1995 because he wanted to invent new ways for non-musicians to experience the unique joy of music-making. Prior to starting the company, he earned his B.S. in music from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his M.S. from the computer music group of the MIT Media Laboratory; and worked as a design consultant to Yamaha Musical Instruments in Japan. He has also been an avid gamer since age three, when his parents brought home a Magnavox Odyssey console. Alex now manages the studio and contributes to the design of Harmonix games. He also enjoys rocking out on the drums and occasionally performs with his brothers in their band Yeast. In 2008, Alex and Eran Egozy were named in Time Magazine’s list of the one hundred most influential people in the world.
