After studying filmmaking at, and graduating from, Sarah Lawrence College, Bickford worked as a production manager on political commercials in New York City. She worked in Paris for Robert Altman as production assistant on "Beyond Therapy" (1987). Shortly thereafter, she moved to London, where she lived for five years. She produced music videos (over 50, in the United States and in Europe) and developed feature films for Luc Roeg and Jeremy Thomas' Vivid Productions. Bickford subsequently moved to Los Angeles and partnered with writer/director Matthew Chapman at his Hollywood Pictures-based company, Asylum Films. Following her tenure at Asylum and production of "Citizen X," she produced "Playing God" with Beacon Pictures. Directed by Andy Wilson and starring David Duchovny, Timothy Hutton, and Angelina Jolie, the film was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1997.
