Currently attorney-general of Australia since June 2022, having held the same role in 2013. Dreyfus is a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), and previously held several portfolios in the governments of Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd. He has been the member of parliament (MP) for the division of Isaacs since 2007. Before beginning his political career, Dreyfus worked as a barrister. He entered politics after winning the seat of Isaacs at the 2007 Australian federal election. He was appointed as attorney-general in the Gillard government after the resignation of Nicola Roxon in February 2013. After Rudd replaced Gillard as prime minister in June 2013, Dreyfus was given the additional roles of Minister for the Public Service and Integrity and Special Minister of State. He would hold these positions for less than three months, as Labor would be defeated in the 2013 election. While in opposition, Dreyfus would serve as the shadow attorney-general in the shadow ministries of Bill Shorten and Anthony Albanese. Following Labor's victory in the 2022 federal election, he would return to his position of attorney-general in the Albanese government.
