The second of two siblings to serve in the state Senate, Senator Ronald S. Calderon quickly made his own mark on the “upper” house. Elected to his first term in November 2006, Senator Calderon chairs the influential Banking Finance and Insurance Committee as well as the Select Committee on International Business Trade. He is presently a member of the select Committee on the Alameda Corridor, the Joint Committee on the Arts, the Senate Select Committee on Surplus Property, the Energy, Utilities and Communications committees and the Revenues and the Economy committee. Senator Calderon is also a member of the California Film Commission, joining the likes of Clint Eastwood and Danny DeVito in promoting the Golden State’s film industry. Senator Calderon was elected to the 30th Senate District after representing many of the same communities during two terms in the state Assembly, where he served as chair of the Banking and Finance Committee and as Assistant Majority Leader. Communities Senator Calderon proudly represents include: Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Huntington Park, La Mirada, Los Angeles, Montebello, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, South El Monte, South Gate, Whittier, East La Mirada, East Los Angeles, Florence-Graham, Hacienda Heights, South Whittier and West Whittier.
