Chuan brings more than thirteen years of experience as a venture capitalist and international business executive to the firm. At Highland, Chuan is focusing on investments in consumer oriented technology sectors (new media, Internet, finance and telecom services) with a particular emphasis on emerging growth opportunities in China and Asia more broadly. Prior to joining Highland, Chuan was a Partner at JAFCO America Ventures, responsible for JAFCO’s venture investment operations on the east coast of the US. He divided his time between venture investments and Asia business development activities. During this period, Chuan contributed to the growth and success of Pirus Networks (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Crescent Networks (acquired by Marconi) and edocs (acquired by Siebel). Earlier in his career, Chuan worked at the headquarters of JAFCO Group in Japan as an investment officer for its Global IT Investment Group. While at JAFCO Tokyo, Chuan worked on several telecom broadband and online service investments in China, Japan, and North America. He also helped JAFCO Group expand its investment activities into the global market and US-based portfolio companies such as Ciena and Nvidia establish international strategic partnerships in the Asia-Pacific market.
