Markus is associate professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University (FIU), Miami and directs FIU’s European Union (EU) Center of Excellence. He graduated with a Ph.D. in international studies from the University of Miami, and has published various books and articles on the political sociology of Europe and the EU, including “The Limits of Transnationalism” (Palgrave, 2011), and co-edited volumes on: “Diversity and the European Union” (Palgrave, 2009) and “Identity Politics in the Age of Globalization’” (Lynne Rienner, 2010), and most recently “Sexualities in World Politics: how LGBTQ claims shape International Relations” (Routledge, 2015). His current research revolves around the cooperation of transnational human rights advocacy groups in the EU. He is involved in the International Studies Association’s LGBT caucus and also in FIU’s LGBTIQ initiatives.
