Terri Dial

During a four-decade career in finance, Ms. Dial was regularly one of only a few top female executives at a Fortune 500 company. In 2009, she was on Forbes magazine’s list of the 100 most powerful women. When she ran the consumer business at Lloyds the TSB Group, based in London, The Telegraph newspaper ranked her No. 27 on its list of the 50 most influential Americans in Britain in 2007. Although she spent most of her career at Wells Fargo, Ms. Dial’s brief tenure at Citigroup may have been her most prominent role in finance. She was among the first major hires of Vikram S. Pandit, who became chief executive of the bank in December 2007, but she left two years later in a management shake-up. Teresa Arlene Dial was born on Oct. 30, 1949, and grew up in Miami. She graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1971. After school, Ms. Dial landed a job as a bank teller at a Wells Fargo branch in San Francisco. She met her husband, Brian Burry, during a management training session at the bank. The couple married in 1980. He survives her, as does her sister, Donna Dial, in Florida.
