Dr. Forrest G. Schaeffer

One of the city's most prominent general practitioners, he became chief obstetrician at the hospital in 1915, seven years after he began his internship there. He was promoted to departmental head when the staff was expanded in 1923. A member of hte Lehigh County Pennsylvania State and American Medical Societies, he was a fellow in the American College of Surgery (1930) and was a member of the Elks club, and was a 32nd degree Mason. In 1926, he married Elizabeth Gitt in Hanover, PA. His widow, his mother, a son Forrest Jr. at home, and two brothers, Berks County President Judge Paul Schaeffer and Harold Schaeffer, both of Reading, survive.
