Known as The California Kid, Urijah Faber is the most significant mixed martial artist to come out of Sacramento. The 5-foot- 6 fighter began as a wrestler, qualifying for the NCAA tournaments in 2001 and 2002 while competing for his alma mater, UC Davis. Faber made his MMA debut in 2003, eventually winning the WEC Featherweight Championship in 2006, and then successfully defending the title for nearly three years. He fought as a bantamweight and featherweight, helping to bring a new level of respectability to smaller MMA fighters. The UFC Hall of Fame inductee retired in 2016, although he made a comeback in 2019.
