Arlen Orchard

For 14 years, Arlen Orchard served as SMUD’s general counsel before becoming CEO and general manager in 2014. With a $1.7 billion budget, SMUD is the sixth largest community-owned electric utility in the United States, supplying power to 1.5 million residents primarily in Sacramento County and parts of Placer County. Orchard serves on numerous boards, in- cluding the American Public Power Association and the Northwest Public Power Association.
