Jeff Byers was born in New York City and prepared for Yale at St. Paul's. He also attended Upper Canada College in Toronto. His father, grandfather and two uncles also were Yale graduates. He was a member of Saybrook College and a History major. After graduation, he had a truly distinguished career in business and in the arts. Jeff was married to Hilary Paley, a daughter of William S. Paley, founder of the Columbia Broadcasting System. He was an owner of Two Trees, a real estate concern which owned and managed apartment units throughout the country. He was formerly associated with Lehman Brothers and W.R. Grace & Company. Jeff's love was the Museum of Modern Art and he assembled an extensive collection of modern paintings. He was a member of the governing board of the Yale Art Gallery of which he was Chairman between 1971 and 1976, and a Trustee of St. Bernard's School in New York. He was a member of The Brook Club, the Links Club, the National Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island and the River Club in New York City.
