Bill has over 25 years of experience in the development, acquisition, management and disposition of real estate throughout the western United States and Asia. His investment and management career spans several recessions in the United States and an aggressive expansion in the emerging markets of China and India. He has worked in partnership with Morgan Stanley, Principal Financial Group and the Washington State Investment Board. His early real estate activity involved the design, development and management of office, industrial, residential, retail and hotel properties. His focus on retail began in the early 1990’s with opportunistic acquisitions and the creation of a fully integrated shopping center operating company. In 2006, Bill relocated to Asia to develop shopping centers to address the rapid growth of the middle class in China and India. He formed a vertically integrated operating company to develop, own and operate shopping centers, with offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Bangalore. Ten shopping centers with approximately 6 million square feet of space were commenced. He serves on the Board of Directors of the New America Foundation, a Washington DC based think tank; LIFT, a non-profit focused on combating poverty in the US; and Zocalo Public Square, a Los Angeles lecture series and ideas magazine; the Policy Advisory Board for the Fisher Centre for Real Estate and Urban Economics at the University of California at Berkeley, the Advisory Board of the Lusk Center for Real Estate at the University of Southern California and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. Bill was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles with a B.A. in History.
