Schmidt served as a director and CEO of Blue Buffalo Co. Ltd. from 2012 through 2016. Previously, he was deputy executive VP at Nestle SA, responsible for the Nestle Nutrition division. He joined Nestle in 2007 as part of its acquisition of Gerber Products from Novartis, wher he was president and CEO of Geber Products.
