Jackie Roberts is the Chief Sustainability Officer for The Carlyle Group. She is based in Washington, DC. Roberts previously worked at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) as manager of the Environmental Alliances program (now Corporate Partnerships), director of the Alliance for Environmental Innovation project, and staff scientist. She crafted partnerships with Fortune 500 companies such as UPS, FedEx, McDonald's, and Starbucks to develop innovative approaches to reducing their environmental impacts. She also conducted research and led advocacy efforts to improve environmental management in the corporate sector. Prior to her time at EDF, Roberts consulted on corporate environmental strategies ranging from energy and air issues to investing in ecosystem services. Her clients included Chevron, Calpine, and Forest Trends. Roberts was an engineer for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In 1993, she was invited to be a senior fellow on the faculty of Harvard Business School to develop curriculum on emerging environmental strategies. Roberts has served on several boards including the advisory board for Conservation International’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business, the board of directors for Appalachian Mountain Club, and the board of advisors for the University of Michigan Corporate Environmental Management Program.
