Dennis J. Duffy was named executive vice president, Operations of Union Pacific Railroad in September 1998. In his position, Duffy is responsible for the operation of more than 3,000 trains operating daily throughout 23 western states. Duffy is in charge of all transportation services, including management and maintenance of locomotives, rail cars, tracks, train dispatching and crew calling. Since joining Union Pacific in 1973, Duffy has held numerous positions in Operations, Finance, and Marketing and Sales. As senior vice president, Customer Service Planning and Delivery, Duffy directed the overall design and development of the company’s service network. This position included responsibility for the company’s National Customer Service Center (NCSC) in St. Louis, freight car distribution, service design and network planning. Duffy also was vice president, Quality, and was a member of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners, serving as an examiner and senior examiner. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Duffy also completed the Management Development Program at Harvard University.
