Google advertising chief Sridhar Ramaswamy is joining Greylock Partners, the venture capital firm announced in a blog post. He will be replaced by Prabhakar Raghavan, formerly a vice president of engineering for Google's Cloud apps, with a strong background in AI research. Ramaswamy, whose title at Google was senior vice president of advertising and commerce, joined the company 15 years ago. Prior to joining Google, Sridhar was a director of engineering at E.piphany where he oversaw the development of cutting edge marketing automation products. He also held research positions at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, and Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) focusing on databases and query processing on large scale data. Sridhar earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and his master’s and PhD degrees in CS from Brown University. His role at the helm of the advertising unit was one of the most important positions at the company, though he himself liked to keep a low profile. He has previously dabbled in angel investing, providing early funding to the startup Leap AI. Sridhar joined the Palo Alto Networks board of directors in 2017
