Rafiq Kalam Id-Din

Rafiq R. Kalam Id-Din II, Esq. is Founder & Managing Partner of Teaching Firms of America Charter Schools. Rafiq received a 2007 Echoing Green Fellowship for his "Teaching Firm" school model (a school led by fulltime, experienced teachers the way a law firm is led by fulltime, experienced lawyers), which he used to develop and launch the first fully teacher led school in New York (Professional Preparatory Charter School in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn). Rafiq has a myriad of teaching and leadership experience, spanning from preschool instruction to nonprofit management to board leadership. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and African-American Studies, and a Master of Teaching degree in Secondary English Education. After graduating from New York University School of Law with his Juris Doctor, Rafiq spent several years as a corporate lawyer with the law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York and Hong Kong, before serving as Executive Director of the AnBryce Foundation, an education foundation in Washington DC. Rafiq is a founding member of the Coalition of Community Charter Schools, current President of the Black Latino Asian Pacific-American NYU Law Alumni Association (BLAPA) and founder of BlackLedSchoolsMatter.
