Lois Rosenthal

Lois was the editor of Story. Though she'd written a handful of books and written a weekly column for The Enquirer prior to that, Mrs. Rosenthal had no experience as an editor of this sort of material. And, as it turned out, she did it quite successfully. With her husband's business acumen – he was the owner of F&W Publications – the circulation grew to 25,000, a remarkable achievement for a literary magazine. Mrs. Rosenthal attended classes at South Avondale School and Walnut Hills High School before enrolling at the University of Cincinnati. The couple met on a blind date in 1959. Unfortunately, they weren't dating one another at the time. On December 20, 1959, they got married. Richard Rosenthal was 26, she was just 20. Mrs. Rosenthal was born into the family that owned Bilker's Foods, Cincinnati's best-known Kosher grocery and delicatessen. She was ambitious, industrious and hard-working and pushed her young husband to be the same way. In addition to her husband Richard, Mrs. Rosenthal is survived by two children, Jennie (Allan) Berliant and David, both of Cincinnati, four grandchildren and her brother Harvey (Mary) Reis.
