William F. (Bill) Hagerty is a founder and Managing Director of Hagerty Peterson & Company, LLC ("Hagerty Peterson"), a private equity investment firm with offices in Nashville and Chicago. In July of 2016, Bill took a leave of absence from Hagerty Peterson to serve as Director of Presidential Appointments for the 2016 Trump Presidential Transition Team. He is also leading Nashville's effort to acquire a Major League Soccer franchise. And he serves on the boards of 3 public companies: RenaissanceRe (NYSE: "RNR"), Pinnacle Bank (NASDAQ: "PNFP"), and Ryman Hospitality Properties (NYSE: "RHP"), parent company of the Gaylord Hotel Group, the Grand Ole Opry and Nashville's famed Ryman Auditorium. A native of Tennessee, Mr. Hagerty attended Vanderbilt University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Economics. He then attended Vanderbilt Law School as a Wilson Scholar and was elected to the Law Review where he served as Associate Editor. Bill began his professional career at global management consultancy Boston Consulting Group ("BCG"). During the Bush (41) Administration, Bill joined the White House Staff with assignments in international trade, commerce, treasury, defense and telecom. He was selected as a White House Fellow reporting to the Vice President of the United States. Following his White House service Bill joined Silicon Valley-based Trident Capital and began his career in private equity. One of his first deals with Trident was lifting out the mapping division of former BCG client, RR Donnelly, to form what became MapQuest, in which he co-invested with Trident. MapQuest 3 years later went public (Nasdaq: MQST) and then was acquired through a public tender by AOL Time Warner (NYSE: AOL). Bill later helped form and lead the private equity and advisory firm that bears his name today - Hagerty Peterson and Company. With a hands-on philosophy of building equity value, Bill served as founder and Chairman of the Board for CyMed, Inc., the nation's third largest medical records company, which later merged with NYSE-traded PLDT (NYSE:PHI). He was also Vice-Chairman of NEW Customer Services Company, the nation's largest electronics warranty administrator, which merged into NEW Asurion. In 2011, Mr. Hagerty joined the Cabinet of newly elected Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam as Commissioner of Economic Development for his home state, with responsibility for trade, jobs and economic growth for Tennessee. He worked on a regular basis with the US Congress, where he provided Congressional testimony, and had numerous interactions with the US Treasury, the US Department of Commerce, the US Trade Representative, the International Trade Administration, HUD, SBA and other federal agencies. Bill led numerous trade missions for the State and served as Delegation Head for the Southeast US/Japan annual exchanges. As Economic Development Commissioner, Bill was also responsible for the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission. Under his leadership the Commission staff refocused their efforts on areas where the convergence of music, entertainment and film had the potential to yield the best possible returns for the State in a variety of sectors, including tourism, the local economy and new corporate recruitment. The Commission identified the ABC hit television series "Nashville" as just such an opportunity, subsequently investing more than $35 million in the show which is now syndicated in more than 60 countries and touches more than 8 million viewers each week. The series' impact on the growth of Nashville's economy and tourism statewide has proven to be one of the most successful in state history. During his four years of service as Economic Development Commissioner, Bill successfully navigated significant budget and staff cuts in the department in response to reductions of nearly $2 billion in the State budget. He also launched a new TNTrade division of the Economic Development department, adding overseas offices aimed directly at expanding international markets that offer the greatest opportunity for Tennessee companies and entrepreneurs. Bill served on the Board of Directors for global publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt during its transition from an Irish domiciled company to one now headquartered in the US. (Nasdaq: HMHC). Bill is a Director for Ryman Hospitality, the lodging and entertainment firm that owns such iconic brands as Gaylord Hotels, The Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium. He is a Director of Pinnacle Financial Partners, the largest bank headquartered in Nashville. And he sits on the Board of R.J. O'Brien, the nation's largest independent futures and commodities merchant. RJO recently absorbed 70% of the assets of MF Global at the request of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Mr. Hagerty led a $50 million Capital campaign as Chairman of the Executive Board for the National Capital Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He has served on the Board of the Far East Council of the BSA (Japan) and is still an active member of the Middle Tennessee BSA Board's Executive Committee today. Bill also served for eleven years as member and Chair of the Regional Selection Panel for the President's Commission on White House Fellowships during the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Columbia Hospital for Women, a nationally recognized not-for-profit Women's hospital in the District of Columbia. And he has been engaged locally as a Trustee of Cheekwood where he served on the Executive Committee of the Board. When he is not working out of New York City or Washington, DC, Bill and his wife Chrissy live in Nashville with their four children.
