Lloyd Noble, founded Noble Affiliates, Samedan Oil and Noble Drilling Co. At his death in 1950, Lloyd Noble willed the bulk of his estate, then valued at $10 million, to perpetuate the foundation he named for his father, Samuel Roberts Noble. Included in that gift was Samedan Oil and the bulk of Noble Drilling. In 1988, the estate was valued at $286 million. Lloyd Noble died of a heart attack at the age of 53 on Valentine's Day 1950. The foundation is a private, nonprofit organization that has conducted research and information programs on agricultural issues. The foundation annually compiles information submitted by producers and prints a "CattleLog," which is used by more than 2,000 agriculture producers, feedlots, commission companies and auction services.
