Abigail Pogrebin is a columnist for The Forward and the author of two books published by Doubleday—Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk About Being Jewish and One and the Same: My Life as an Identical Twin and What I’ve Learned about Everyone’s Struggle to be Singular. Abigail has been a Central trustee since 2011 and has served on the executive committee since 2012. For the last five years, she and her daughter have volunteered at Central’s Breakfast Program. She is also a trustee for The Doe Fund: Ready, Willing and Able, where she teaches memoir writing to the formerly homeless and incarcerated. Abigail was an Emmy-nominated producer for Mike Wallace and Ed Bradley at “60 Minutes,” and before that, for Charlie Rose, Bill Moyers, MacNeil/Lehrer, and Fred W. Friendly at PBS. She co-authored the “Most Influential 50 Rabbis” list for Newsweek, and has written for New York Magazine, Salon, Tablet, Harper’s Bazaar, and the Daily Beast. Abigail moderates an interview series at the JCC in Manhattan, and has anchored programs at 92Y and The Skirball Center. She has been a keynote speaker at Federations and JCCs around the country and gave the opening plenary address at the Global Hillel Conference in 2014. A graduate of Yale University, Abigail lives in New York City with her husband, David Shapiro, and their two children
