Ronald L. Platt has joined the law firm’s Public Law & Policy Strategies Group as a senior managing director and will be resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Prior to joining Sonnenschein, Platt chaired Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s federal government relations practice, which he successfully grew in four years. He has handled many diverse legislative and administrative matters involving tax and health policy, energy policy, international taxation, international trade, gaming policy and appropriations. His experience also extends to development of coalitions of diverse interests in support or opposition to federal legislation. Platt has been active for many years in the Democratic Party, and has served on the staff of former chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and Secretary of Treasury Lloyd Bentsen, as well as former chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary, Rep. Jack Brooks. Platt’s political experience also includes participation in numerous campaigns, including serving as Michigan state director for Gore-Lieberman 2000 and as political director to the Nevada Democratic Coordinated Campaign in 1998. He is a member of the Majority Trust of both the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Platt received an M.A. degree from the University of Kansas and a B.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma.
