Greg D. Bates brings 30 years of experience working with national policy-makers as well as national and international government, intelligence and law enforcement agencies. In 2008-2009 he served as Director of the Stability Operations Division at the Foreign Service Institute, US Department of State, where he oversaw training for civilian agency and military personnel serving in joint missions to Iraq and Afghanistan. From 2005-2006, he was Director of the National Coordination Team and US Embassy Baghdad’s Deputy-Director for Civil-Military Regional Operations where he initiated and expanded the Provincial Reconstruction Team program in Iraq; he also served as the Director of Operations for USAID’s Iraq Local Governance Program in 2004, and from 2003-early 2004 served as the Deputy Governance Coordinator/Acting Governance Coordinator, Governance Team (Diwaniyah) under the Coalition Provisional Authority. Since ending his government service in 2009, and during periods between government service, Mr. Bates served as a consultant to the Department of State and Department of Defense, providing training and analysis support to military and civilian officials in Iraq and Afghanistan. A former US State Department State Foreign Service Officer, he is also a retired USMC Intelligence Officer with twenty-two years experience with Navy, Marine Corps and joint/combined intelligence operations. He received his Bachelors Degree from Saint Leo University and is currently completing his Masters Degree in Psychology.
