Mr. Pillsbury was a grandson of Charles A. Pillsbury, co-founder of the flour-milling company which has grown to be among the world's largest diversified food companies. He started with the company in 1924 as a laborer after graduation from Yale and first became a master miller before being promoted to sales and management positions. Mr. Pillsbury was said to be one of the few milling industry executives to have a real knowledge of flour milling. In 1928, Mr. Pillsbury was elected to the board of directors. He became president in 1940 and held that post he was elected chairman of the board in 1951. He retired in 1968.
