Theodore P Harris

Ted has been at the firm since 1995. His practice includes the representation of multi-platinum recording artists and producers, Oscar winning songwriters, managers, record company executives and independent record and production companies. In addition to negotiating recording, publishing, management and live performance agreements, he has extensive experience with licensing agreements, soundtrack albums, endorsement and sponsorship agreements, live theatrical, motion picture and television agreements, and joint venture and partnership agreements. On the talent side, his clients span a broad range of genres from opera to country, hip hop to heavy metal, and R&B to pop, and range from emerging artists to superstars. Ted was born and raised in New York City, where he graduated from Trinity School; he went on to study philosophy and art history at Harvard, jurisprudence at Oxford, and received his law degree from Stanford Law School, where he won 1st prize in the Law School’s Nathan Burkan Memorial Copyright Essay Competition sponsored by ASCAP. He also studied at the Berklee College of Music and at the Sorbonne in Paris while playing piano with a sextet at le Cave du Hot Club de France in le Marais and a smaller ensemble at a boîte on the boulevard Raspail. He started his legal career at Davis Polk & Wardwell.
