In January 2006 John Gibbs was been named Vice President of State Government Affairs, where he will oversee Comcast's state-level government affairs activities, including the formation of legislative strategies and policy initiatives. Gibbs will be based in St. Paul, Minnesota and report to Comcast Vice President of Government Affairs Kerry Knott in Washington, D.C. Gibbs, a 20-year telecommunications veteran, has been serving as the Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Comcast's Midwest Division for the past three years, where he has been responsible for local government affairs, franchising and regulatory compliance issues. He was previously a partner in the Minneapolis firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller and Ciresi, LLP, where he focused on telecommunications regulatory issues. Gibbs also provided counsel on the franchise transfer activities for Comcast's acquisition of AT&T Broadband, and other major industry transactions including the mergers of AT&T and Media One, AT&T and TCI, and AOL and Time Warner. Gibbs also served as Vice President of Corporate and Legal Affairs for Continental Cablevision from 1986 to 1995. Gibbs replaces Richard Schollmann and holds a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN and a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. He resides in the Twin Cities area with his wife Theresa (T.D.) and four children.
