Charles Campion

Charles Campion is a principal and founder of the Dewey Square Group. With nearly 30 years of experience in business, government and politics, Campion is one of the country's most respected corporate campaign strategists concentrating in the development and execution of public affairs strategies. Before forming the Dewey Square Group, Campion founded and managed Campion and Associates, a firm that specialized in helping private corporations manage their sensitive public affairs issues. Campion's government experience includes serving in the Carter White House as special assistant to Vice-President Walter Mondale. And as executive assistant to the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Campion planned and coordinated strategies for the mid-term congressional elections and the Democratic National Convention. Campion began his career in 1977, working as a special assistant to Massachusetts Governor Michael S. Dukakis. He later served as the metropolitan Boston field director for the Dukakis 1978 gubernatorial campaign. From 1982 through 1984, Campion held a number of key positions in Mondale's presidential campaign, serving as deputy to the campaign chairman, director of the New Hampshire and Ohio primary campaigns, deputy director of the New Jersey primary campaign and director of the Illinois general election campaign. Mr. Campion was born in Boston on Aug. 20, 1955, the middle child and only son in a family of five children. A product of Brookline High School, he was a political science major at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, graduating in 1977. He met his wife, the former Heather Pars, while he was working in the Carter administration. She was a speechwriter for the president. In addition to his wife, with whom he lived in Brookline, Mass., Mr. Campion is survived by their son, Maxwell; their daughter, Courtney Campion; his sisters, Rosella, Suzanne, Tracy and Leigh, all with the surname Campion; a half-brother, Christian Richard; and his mother, Mary Donlan Richard.
