Margot graduated from The Dalton School ('41) and Bennington College ('45). She went on to study biochemistry at Columbia University, worked 1947-1948 as an assistant in biochemistry at Memorial Hospital and, for the next decade, did biochemical research at Cornell Medical School. She returned to Dalton in 1959 as Mrs. Gumport, a teacher. During her Dalton career, Mrs. Gumport taught chemistry, biology, physics, and French and served for many years as the chair of the science department and dean of the high school. In January 2013, Mrs. Gumport retired from Dalton. Margot's father, Andrew W. Loebl, founded National New York Packing and Shipping Company. Margot's mother, the former Florence Weinberg, was an artist. While teaching, Margot served as president of her father's firm and also as a director of National Screen Service Corporation. Margot was a New Yorker, and her happiest endeavor was building a family in her childhood city with her husband, Steve, a surgeon and professor at NYU. She is survived by sons Leonard of South Pasadena, CA (wife Wendy; children Anna, Tom, Mary), Michael of Summit, NJ (wife Pamela; children Alex, Max), and Jonathan of New York City (child Elizabeth). She was predeceased by her youngest son, Daniel, of Pasadena, CA (wife Nora; children Michelle, Nicole, Matthew)
