Vito Mustaciuolo was appointed Acting General Manager of the New York City Housing Authority by Mayor Bill de Blasio, effective February 2018. In April 2018, he was named the General Manager, and in April 2021 he was named Chief Operating Officer. As NYCHA’s principal administrator, he oversees a range of activities, including the operation of the Authority’s developments, capital projects (including the Sandy recovery and energy and sustainability programs), the Section 8 program, safety initiatives, community engagement and partnerships, information technology, and administration. Mr. Mustaciuolo brings decades of City service to the role. Prior to joining NYCHA, he served at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) as Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services, managing a staff of approximately 1,000 responsible for ensuring owner compliance with the New York City Housing Maintenance Code and the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law.After joining HPD in 1984, Mr. Mustaciuolo held a variety of operational positions in the Divisions of Maintenance, Relocation Services, and Demolition before his appointment as the Assistant Commissioner for Code Enforcement. In 2001, he was promoted to Associate Commissioner for Enforcement Services and played a critical role in drafting and implementing the 2004 Local Law 1, the City’s chief ordinance for lead testing and remediation. In 2008, Mr. Mustaciuolo received the prestigious Sloan Public Service award for service to the City of New York. Mr. Mustaciuolo was born and raised on Staten Island, where he lives with his wife. He has two daughters and three grandchildren.
