Jason Marczak is the senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. He joined the Council in October 2013 to launch the center and set the strategic direction for its Latin America work. Marczak has over twenty years of expertise in regional economics, politics, and development, working with high-level policymakers and private-sector leaders to shape public policy. Since taking over as Center Director, among other priorities, he has overseen development of a multi-faceted campaign focused on a reconstruction of Venezuela’s democratic institutions, and, most recently, has led the Center in its new efforts to map a post-COVID recovery for the region. Under his leadership, the Center is also focused on setting the agenda and defining the region’s global importance around other key issues: US-Mexico ties; China in Latin America; Colombia’s future; a changing Brazil; Central America’s trajectory; combatting disinformation; shifting trade patterns; and leveraging energy resources. Since 2016, Marczak is an adjunct professor at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. He was previously director of policy at Americas Society/Council of the Americas in New York City and co-founder of Americas Quarterly magazine, overseeing the magazine’s launch and growth and development of its online presence. In 2003, he joined Partners of the Americas to help lead its work on Latin America-wide civil society engagement. Prior to that, Marczak held positions at the National Endowment for Democracy and in the office of then-Representative Sam Farr (CA) with a portfolio including trade and foreign affairs. Marczak received a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and a master’s degree in international affairs and economics from the Johns Hopkins University Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. Since its founding, he has served on the communications committee of Qualitas of Life Foundation, which provides financial education to Latinos in the New York City tri-state area.
