Alexander W. Mooney is a litigation associate in the Washington, DC office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where he primarily practices in the Firm’s White Collar Defense, Securities Enforcement, Congressional Investigations, Public Policy, and Crisis Management groups. He also has experience in First Amendment matters and general commercial litigation. Mr. Mooney has deep experience with defending and managing Executive and Congressional Branch investigations and enforcement actions, as well as internal and whistleblower investigations across numerous industries. A former journalist and television news producer, Mr. Mooney has advised clients in several public policy and political matters and played key roles in assessing and strategically responding to high-profile crises involving significant media and political scrutiny. He has recently served in lead roles representing and advising Presidential Cabinet nominees, members of Congress, multinationals, financial institutions, private equity funds, government contractors, health insurance companies, automakers, telecommunications companies, and non-profit institutions before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and several congressional Committees, as well as other government agencies. Mr. Mooney earned his Juris Doctor degree magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was elected Order of the Coif and served as Executive Editor of the Georgetown Journal of International Law. Prior to joining Gibson Dunn and while he pursued his law degree, Mr. Mooney was a reporter and producer with CNN for several years, where he was stationed at the White House and covered numerous presidential campaigns, Congress, and developments within the Executive Branch.
