The Washington Group further strengthened its House Leadership expertise and position as a leading bi-partisan firm by welcoming Brett Shogren, former Policy Director to past United States House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Mr. Shogren joins the company as a senior vice president and is an expert in the formulation of policy, navigation of Congressional Leadership and management of legislative priorities. Previously as Policy Director, he advised Leader DeLay on several major pieces of legislation, including the Trade Promotion Authority, National Defense Authorization and Medicare Prescription Drug Modernization Acts. Further, he implemented the related development and execution of the House Leadership’s policy and legislative agenda in coordination with fellow House Leadership, House Committees, Senate Leadership and the White House. Shogren also was responsible for advising the Leader on the policies, processes, and issues related to foreign affairs, intelligence and national security as the Leader’s National Security Advisor. Prior to Mr. DeLay’s appointment to House Majority Leader, Mr. Shogren served in DeLay’s Whip operation as his policy advisor on a wide range of topics including technology, telecommunications, health care, national security, defense, intelligence, trade, welfare reform and immigration. He also served as the principal staff member to the House Leadership in regards to the historical Medicare Modernization Act of 2003’s conference committee. This varied expertise will strongly complement The Washington Group’s wide range of clients in all major industries. Before working for Leader DeLay, Mr. Shogren served as Congressman Goodlatte’s primary legislative aide for foreign affairs, trade, national security, health care, social security, tax and immigration. He started his notable Capitol Hill career with a research position on the House Judiciary Committee.
