Sid England has contributed to numerous local, state and international organizations involved in conservation and environmental planning, including the Audubon California Board of Directors (2000-2009), which elected him as the first emeritus member of the board. He has been a long-time member of the Yolo Audubon Society Board of Directors, and has served as President, Conservation Chair and Membership Chair. He currently is on the boards of directors for the International Crane Foundation, Yolo County Water Resources Association (vice chair), and Central Valley Bird Club (treasurer). He is a contributing author to the Birds of North America. Sid holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis, where he is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability and teaches an introductory birding class through UC Davis Extension. The Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability group at UC Davis group coordinates campus sustainability programs, including efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emission and is responsible for environmental planning for campus projects. In 2009, he received the City of Davis Environmental Recognition Award, which recognizes outstanding efforts to improve the environmental quality of life in and around the community.
