Timothy Lovain joined Denny Miller Associates in 1984. Before joining DMA, Tim served as a legislative assistant to Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA), legislative director of New Directions, a citizens' lobby on international issues, and chief legislative assistant to Representative Helen S. Meyner (D-NJ). Tim was an active-duty Coast Guard officer for three years, serving as a deck watch officer on a high-endurance cutter and as a staff officer at the First Coast Guard District Headquarters in Boston. Tim has also worked on numerous successful presidential, gubernatorial and congressional campaigns and volunteered on countless other local, state and national campaigns in Washington State, Illinois, New Jersey and Virginia. Tim has been deeply involved in the civic and political life of Alexandria, Virginia for many years. In May, 2006, he was elected to the Alexandria City Council. He serves on numerous boards and committees, including the Transportation Planning Board of the Washington Area Council of Governments and as Chair of the Alexandria United Way Campaign. Tim is an attorney, admitted to the Washington State Bar, and serves as chair of the Washington Area Transit Industry Representatives. He has written numerous articles that have been published in academic publications, magazines, and daily newspapers including The New York Times and The Washington Post. Tim received a B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in politics from Princeton University, and a J.D. from the University of Washington Law School. Tim resides in Alexandria, VA with his wife, Beth, and their three daughters.
