Diana Campoamor is President of Hispanics in Philanthropy, a network of philanthropists that includes most of the international foundations and many corporations in the United States. Under her leadership, HIP has invested over $40 million in small Latino nonprofits and leaders. Using an innovative collaborative approach, HIP has supported grassroots organization with a potential to grow to scale. In partnership with local funders and donors, HIP has worked in 19 different sites in the US and Latin America. Prior to joining HIP, Ms. Campoamor worked at the Shalan Foundation, the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF) and United Way. Her book of essays, Nuevos Senderos: Hispanics and Philanthropy, published by Arte Publico Press in 1999, was one of the first anthologies to portray Latinos as givers and leaders in philanthropy. Ms. Campoamor has served as a trustee of the Council on Foundations, Independent Sector, the Inter University Project for Latino Research, BRAVA for Women in the Arts and Horizons Foundation. She's currently on the Board of International Planned Parenthood for Latin America. She received a BA from the University of Florida and an MA from the University of Miami. A native of Cuba, Ms. Campoamor is a US citizen, bilingual and bicultural. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, and interests include bicycling, painting, films, and meditation. Her family includes an adult son who is an artist, a two year old granddaughter, a daughter in law who is a public health expert, and a six year old daughter born in China, as well as a brother and sister in law who live in the house next door.
