Brian Moran is Of Counsel in the Public Policy Group, where he uses his nearly 20 years of experience as a prosecutor and Chief Deputy Attorney General in the office of the Washington State Attorney General to advise clients in a range of matters before state AG offices and state regulatory agencies, as well as in civil and criminal investigations. As the top legal advisor to the Attorney General, Brian had a significant role in the AG office’s legal strategy and policy initiatives, including matters related to consumer protection, public records, data breach, and unfair competition. He frequently worked with the state legislature and state agencies to draft, implement or amend state law in important areas such as consumer protection, the powers and duties of the Attorney General, public records, tort liability, public safety and criminal law. In addition to his other duties, Brian served as the primary point of contact and legal advisor to state court judges and the Chief of the Washington State Patrol. Brian managed a very large team of 27 legal divisions, the Solicitor General’s Office, the Deputy Attorneys General, Division Chiefs, and more than 500 other assistant attorneys general. He is a frequent consultant to other public law offices on management, budget and personnel matters, and he is often called upon to speak about litigation and trial advocacy. Prior to his chief deputy appointment, Brian served as the Attorney General’s chief criminal prosecutor and Senior Deputy Prosecutor with the Office of the Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney. His extensive trial and litigation experience includes white collar fraud, public corruption, environmental, and criminal and civil investigations. Brian has tried hundreds of cases through verdict, including thirty-five homicides and three death penalty cases.
