William (Bill) H. Atwood established architecture firm Atwood, Henningsen & Kestner, Inc. Architects in 1980, which was then known as William Harrison Atwood, Architects, Inc. As a senior architect with experience in all phases of design ranging across residential, commercial, and resort projects, Atwood offers invaluable insight into the transformational development of Mary Baldwin College’s new graduate school, Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences (MDCHS). The firm’s work can be seen across the southeastern United States, and in the immediate vicinity at Wintergreen Resort. Atwood is connected to Mary Baldwin College through his wife, former Board of Trustees member Bertie Deming (Bebe) Heiner, and through his mother-in-law, Bertie Murphy Deming Smith ’46, who is MBC’s lead donor for MDCHS and a former Board member.
