Michelle Alexander

Michelle Alexander is a highly acclaimed civil rights lawyer, advocate, legal scholar, and writer, passionate about exposing and challenging racial bias in the criminal justice system. Her 2010 New York Times Bestseller “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness,” won the 2011 NAACP Image Award for Best Nonfiction. A graduate of Stanford Law School and Vanderbilt University, Michelle currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University. She previously worked as Director of the Racial Justice Project at the ACLU of Northern California, taught law at Stanford University, and has litigated numerous class action discrimination cases. Michelle is a recipient of the 2005 Soros Justice Fellowship from the Open Society Institute.
