Mr. Cummings began his legal career in 1987 as a law clerk for the Honorable Ann Claire Williams. During his clerkship, Mr. Cummings assisted Judge Williams with the entire range of her civil and criminal cases. In 1989, Mr. Cummings became an associate with Miner, Barnhill & Galland. He became a shareholder at the firm in 1995 and has served as the firm's co-managing partner. Mr. Cummings has represented individuals and classes of individuals in employment discrimination cases. Mr. Cummings has represented the firm's clients in voting rights litigation under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and in cases involving excessive force, housing discrimination, and First Amendment claims. Mr. Cummings has worked with George Galland in the representation of Chicago area hospitals. Mr. Cummings has represented the firm's not-for-profit clients before administrative agencies, in labor arbitrations, and in court in connection with a variety of claims concerning employment discrimination, collective bargaining disputes, and unemployment compensation. Mr. Cummings has represented a number of "relators" under the False Claims Act who allege that corporate defendants have defrauded the federal and state governments through the submission of false claims.
