Robert “Bob” Fioretti is an Alderman in the Chicago City Council, representing the 2nd Ward. He has served as 2nd Ward Alderman since 2007, and was re-elected in 2011. The 2nd Ward currently includes portions of Bronzeville, East Garfield Park, the Illinois Medical District, Little Italy, the Loop, Near West Side, Prairie District, the South Loop, University Village, Westhaven, and the West Loop. In 2015, the ward will shift north as a result of the 2012 remap and will include portions of Streeterville, the Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, East Village, West Town, Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Ukranian Village. Bob Fioretti also serves as the 2nd Ward’s Democratic Committeeman, which is part of the Cook County Democratic Party. He is a member of the City Council Committees on Aviation, Committees, Rules and Ethics, Health and Environmental Protection, License and Consumer Protection, Special Events, Cultural Affairs and Recreation, Transportation and Public Way, and Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards. Bob was born and raised in Chicago’s Pullman/Roseland neighborhood on the south side. He is the son of a Polish-American mother and an Italian immigrant father who moved to Chicago and worked for the Pullman train car company. Bob attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School and Mendel High School. He received a Pullman Foundation scholarship to attend the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and served as Student Body President. Bob earned his law degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he remains a member of the adjunct faculty. He served as president of the NIU National Alumni Association from 2000 to 2004 and as president of the NIU College of Law Alumni Counsel. Bob has practiced law in the public sector, where he served as the Senior Supervising Attorney of the General Litigation Division for the Corporation Counsel of the city of Chicago. In his duration with the Corporation Counsel, Bob Fioretti was involved in over 500 civil rights cases, and his personal trial experiences have led to over 100 state and federal verdicts and appellate court decisions. Bob Fioretti represented the family of Baby Tamia in the high-profile adoption case that led to changes in Illinois adoption law. He has been appointed in numerous cases as a Special Assistant Attorney General of Illinois and a Special Assistant State’s Attorney Bob is Of Counsel to the law firm of Orum & Roth LLC in Chicago. He dedicates nearly all of his time to his aldermanic duties, yet occasionally practices in the areas of governmental law, and complex litigation. Bob is active in several civic and charitable organizations and serves on numerous boards and committees. He has served as President of the Historic Pullman Foundation, the Character and Fitness Committee of the Illinois Supreme Court, and the Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association Executive Committee. Bob has received several awards for his public service and leadership. For his efforts in improving and expanding public parks in the 2nd Ward, Bob Fioretti received the 2009 “Legislator of the Year” award from Friends of the Parks, a non-profit, Chicago-based park advocacy group. In 2010 he received a Best Aldermanic Voting Record Award from the IVI-IPO. For his efforts in supporting public education, he received the 2011 “Defender of Public Schools” Award from the Chicago Teachers Union. Again in 2012 he received the Best Aldermanic Voting Award from the IVI-IPO.
